Dr Julia Crawford

Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon

Dr Julia Crawford is an Australian-trained Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon specialising in head and neck cancer surgery, benign disorders of the head and neck, robotic surgery, and the surgical management of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. She is one of only a handful of fellowship-trained Robotic Head and Neck Surgeons in Australia.

Dr Crawford completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of New South Wales in 2004, before earning her Fellowship in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012, having trained in New South Wales. She then undertook a six-month subspecialty Clinical Fellowship in Sleep Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery at Wollongong Hospital under Professor Stuart MacKay.

Seeking to further advance her expertise, Dr Crawford completed a two-year Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Surgery, Robotic and Reconstructive Surgery at Celebration Health in Orlando, Florida, under Professor J. Scott Magnuson and Associate Professor Hilliary White. During this time, she trained extensively in the use of robotic surgery for cancer and obstructive sleep apnoea and was involved in teaching other surgeons in these advanced techniques.

A passionate educator, Dr Crawford is the co-founder and co-director of the St Vincent’s Head and Neck Surgery Cadaver Course and the course director for the International Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Course in Orlando for 10 years. This was a hands-on training program she helped establish alongside world leaders in the field. She has published extensively on robotic surgery in head and neck cancer and is regularly invited to present and teach at national and international meetings. She is a conjoint lecturer at both the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney.

Dr Crawford also plays an active leadership role in her profession as the President of the Australian and New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society, as an appointed member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons NSW State and Executive Committee and as the Head of Department (Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery) at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.
