Our staff and services

Nelune is staffed by specialist registered nurses, who administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy and blood products. We also have specially trained apheresis nurses who perform plasma exchange, red blood cell exchange and blood stem cell collection procedures in the Nelune Centre and across the hospital campus. Nelune has 16 chairs and 4 beds, and a separate apheresis area with 3 chairs.

In addition to the nursing team patients being treated in Nelune are supported by a doctor based in the centre who works in conjunction with your haematologist or oncologist, a nursing unit manager, cancer care coordinators and clinical nurse consultants. Patients can also be referred to and supported by our dedicated allied health team including social workers, dietitians, speech pathologists and clinical psychologists. Many patients are invited to participate in clinical trials and our clinical trial team provide expert support every step of the way. We value the feedback of our patients and regularly conduct surveys to learn how we can improve our service.

Pharmacy

Prescriptions are dispensed mostly by the pharmacy in the main foyer, St Vincents Public Hospital, 390 Victoria Street or by a local community pharmacy. A small number of specialised medicines are dispensed on level 5 Kinghorn Cancer Centre. Your nurse or doctor will explain which pharmacy to attend to have prescriptions filled.
