A/Prof Rachel Dear
Associate Professor Rachel Dear graduated with first class honours in medicine from the University of New South Wales and completed medical oncology training at Westmead Hospital before completing her PhD under the supervision of Professor Martin Tattersall at the University of Sydney in 2012. During her PhD she was a clinical fellow at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She worked as a medical oncologist at the Mater Hospital from 2012 before joining The Kinghorn Cancer Centre at St Vincent's Hospital in 2014 where she is now a Senior Staff Specialist. Rachel specialises in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. She is director of the Wellness Centre at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre which aligns with her passion for supportive therapies in people with cancer such as exercise, acupuncture, massage, yoga and meditation. She has admitting rights at St Vincent's Private Hospital.
Rachel is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales. She is closely involved in the teaching and supervision of the junior doctors, registrars and fellows at St Vincent's Hospital. She also supervises PhD students. She has been an Editor of the Cochrane Breast Cancer Group since 2019. She is an Honorary Visiting Scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and she is collaborating with her Garvan colleagues on exciting breast cancer clinical trials and research projects. She is an active member of the Breast Cancer Trials group and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
