What is Lung Cancer?
Lung cancer develops when cells in the lungs grow uncontrollably. It is one of the most common cancers in both men and women. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. Smoking is a major risk factor, but lung cancer can also occur in people who’ve never smoked. Early detection is vital—NSW has launched a National Lung Cancer Screening Program using low-dose CT scans for people at high risk, aimed at spotting cancer early and improving outcomes.
